One of the first reassuring signs that spring is on the way:  the bright green chives who pop up before most anything else. these perennial herb garden workhorses are possibly the most easy-going herb to grow once they are established, but I do recommend getting a starter plant from your local nursery for instant gratification.

Growing up, my dad always made our family version of egg frittata on the weekends or for holiday brunches. one with green onions; one cheese; one sausage cut into little squares. we still have them all the time and like a little kid, my favorite part is the momentary drama of flipping the whole thing out of the pan onto a plate and then back into the pan to finish it off.

My adaptation is this endlessly customizable egg bake recipe. my favorite combinations are different roasted vegetables & whatever cheese is hanging out in the fridge. 

I tried violet syrup for the first time last year and it’s become a fun way to add something different to lemonade, sparkling water, cocktails, and even homemade popsicles! the violet hue is ethereal, the color and flavor both deepened with the more violets you use.
